Glass is used the most but for picture framing only comes so large. Over a certain size glass becomes dangerous and heavy. This is where plexi-glass or acrylic comes in. Acrylic is also preferable because it is less breakable than glass. Perfect for kids rooms, play rooms, offices, and for fine rare art. We have all seen the extremely thin easily breakable plastic in hardware stores or some readymade frames. The Framemakers only use picture framing grade acrylic. It is approximately the same thickness as glass, non-yellowing and without marks or scratches. Quality acrylic with UV protection will always be more expensive than glass.

Our acrylic has the same ultra violet protection that our glass provides. It is available in the same 3 finishes as outlined in our previous glass blog. All of our acrylic can come as large as 48” x 96” or 4’x 8’. Some finishes come as large as 72”x96”.

All acrylic can scratch easier than glass but cleaning with a soft dry cloth or feather duster will be fine. One of the newest developments is a museum acrylic that is also anti-static. Which makes it perfect for pastels, antique documents, delicate items, etc. Just as with the glass The Framemakers will gladly discuss all glazing options and which will be the best for your particular item.
